Sport Lisboa e Benfica is launching an academy in Armenia, in partnership with the Football Federation of Armenia and the Football Investment Group. The academy will begin operating in the 2027-2028 season and will be established at the FFA Technical Centre-Academy.

What happened?

The Football Federation of Armenia announced the project in a statement, highlighting the importance of the partnership with Sport Lisboa e Benfica for the development of Armenian football.

Sport Lisboa e Benfica, which currently occupies 3rd place in the Primeira Liga, with 80 points and 23 wins in 34 games, recently achieved a sequence of positive results, including a win and two draws in the last five games.

Why is it important for Sport Lisboa e Benfica?

The academy in Armenia will be the club's third outside of Portugal and one of the largest internationally, with investment and infrastructure to develop young players. FFA President Armen Melikbekyan highlighted the importance of the partnership for the development of Armenian football.

What comes next?

The academy will begin operating with around 1,000 young players, aged between 4 and 17, and will be implemented under the technical supervision and methodology of Sport Lisboa e Benfica. The Portuguese club is 8 points behind leader FC Porto in the Primeira Liga and is seeking to strengthen its position with the help of young talents developed at the Armenian academy.

Sport Lisboa e Benfica has scored 74 goals and conceded 25 goals in the current season, with a goal difference of +49. With the academy in Armenia, the club is seeking to develop young players and strengthen its position in the Primeira Liga.
