Sport Lisboa e Benfica expressed total rejection of the suspension imposed by the Portuguese Football Federation's Disciplinary Council on its coach, José Mourinho. The club from Luz considers the sanction to be manifestly unfair, disproportionate and persecutory, referring to the two games of suspension that the coach was subject to by the Disciplinary Council. Benfica argues that the suspension not only distorts the context of the events, but also downplays the provocations directed by Lucho González at José Mourinho in the tunnel leading to the locker rooms, after the expulsions. And the club announces that it will appeal the suspension. Sport Lisboa e Benfica firmly and unequivocally rejects the suspension imposed on its coach, José Mourinho, by the Portuguese Football Federation's Disciplinary Council. This is a manifestly unfair, disproportionate and persecutory decision, taken in disregard of what actually happened at the end of the match. José Mourinho simply kicked the ball into the stands in a moment of celebration, as has happened before, without any intention of disrespect or provocation. In light of the evidence, it is incomprehensible that a suspension was applied that distorts the context of what happened, ignores the explanations provided, as well as what is visible in the images of that moment. More importantly, it downplays the provocations by Lucho González against José Mourinho after the expulsions, in the tunnel leading to the locker rooms. Sport Lisboa e Benfica considers this decision to be deeply unfair and unjustified, which is why it will appeal through the proper channels, with the conviction that, in the proper forum, the truth of the facts will be restored and justice will be served. The club reiterates its total support for coach José Mourinho and will continue to defend, in an uncompromising manner, sporting truth and respect for its professionals, despite another lamentable decision by the Portuguese Football Federation's Disciplinary Council. But Benfica does not give up and will fight for its rights. So the final decision has not yet been made, but the club is already preparing its appeal. Sport Lisboa e Benfica is confident that justice will be served and that José Mourinho will be acquitted. The club hopes that the Portuguese Football Federation will reconsider its decision and do what is fair.
