Benfica blocked the entry of American investor Tim Leiweke into the SAD capital. At the end of Tuesday, the reds issued a statement, sent to the Commission for the Securities Market (CMVM), on the subject, clarifying that a common understanding was reached between the two parties, with the American fund Entrepreneurial Equity Partners (EEP) renouncing the acquisition of shares held by José António dos Santos, known as Rei dos Frangos, the largest private shareholder of Benfica SAD. The decision was 'consensual', the note clarifies. The position of Benfica arises from the evaluation of the reds on the business, in the light of the statutes of Benfica SAD and framed in the interests of the fund of the entrepreneur in other European teams, with emphasis on Venice, Italy. Sport Lisboa e Benfica informs the market that the American fund Entrepreneurial Equity Partners (EEP) renounced the acquisition of a qualified participation in the social capital of Benfica SAD. During the period of time provided for in the pre-agreement with Grupo Valouro and José António dos Santos, productive meetings were held with EEP and a exchange of information was initiated that led to a common understanding between the two parties that, in the face of their growth plan and investment in minority participations in other European clubs, the future perimeter of EEP could collide with the principles of non-competition, provided for in the statutes of Benfica SAD. In this sense, for the protection of Benfica SAD and also of EEP, the consensual decision was made not to enter the capital of Benfica SAD. Benfica SAD is an entity that values its identity and principles, and the decision not to allow EEP to enter the SAD capital is a demonstration of this. The decision is also a sign that Benfica SAD is committed to maintaining its independence and autonomy.
